Babes Wodumo, determined to preserve the legacy of her late husband Mampintsha, has made a heartfelt plea for the release of his unreleased music. The acclaimed Gqom queen has expressed her concern that Mampintsha’s unreleased tracks, which he recorded with various artists before his untimely passing in December 2022, remain in the vaults, potentially forgotten.
One notable artist holding onto Mampintsha’s unreleased music is Kabza De Small, the prolific Amapiano producer. Babes Wodumo recently addressed the situation publicly, urging Kabza and others to release the music or send it to her so she can release it under Mampintsha’s label, thus ensuring his musical legacy endures.
“That was more than two years ago, but he is still holding onto the music, haw kahle!” Babes Wodumo exclaimed. “Either he releases the music or sends it to me, and I will release it under his label as his own. I don’t want the legacy of my husband to die just because people are holding onto his music. He spent a lot of time in the studio, and there are people for whom he did vocals on their songs but have not released them. I’m asking for umculo wendoda yami (my man’s music). His child needs it.”
In response to Babes Wodumo’s appeal, Kabza De Small confirmed the existence of the unreleased track he recorded with Mampintsha. Kabza, known for his meticulous approach to music production, acknowledged the importance of timing in releasing music. He reassured Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha’s fans that the song would eventually see the light of day.
“I have hundreds of songs that have not even been released, and you wait for the right time. It’s the same with Mampintsha. We made a song together, but it wasn’t the right time. I have spoken to Babes; the music will be released,” Kabza De Small stated.
Kabza’s response shows the delicate balance artists often face when deciding the right moment to release new music. However, in this case, the urgency to honor Mampintsha’s memory and support his family has brought the issue to the forefront.
