South African musicians Sam Deep and Azana have released their highly anticipated joint EP, “KwaKhanya,” which translates to “There is light” in both Zulu and Xhosa. This EP is expected to be one of the biggest projects of the year, combining Sam Deep’s vast production skills with Azana’s impressive vocal range.

The EP “KwaKhanya” serves as a profound awakening to the power of God and ancestors, emphasizing the constant presence of guardian angels through good and bad times. The lead single, “BOGOGO,” which has been teased on social media, highlights the dangers of envy and jealousy from those around you. The lyrics, “Umona, umona, umona umona usuke eswele kufikeli hliziyo baze bapenduka abathakhathi,” emphasize the destructive nature of these emotions and the need for spiritual guidance and protection.

Discussing the EP, Azana shared, “KwaKhanya is a body of work touching on topics such as the creation of Earth, African beliefs, the drive to survive and succeed, and various experiences in love. Collaborating with Sam Deep was amazing, as we both aimed to tell our story – his through instruments and mine through voice and lyrics.” Azana’s role model, Lira, has significantly influenced her artistic journey.

Sam Deep expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This project with Azana is something South Africans didn’t know they needed. We hope our people enjoy it as much as we did creating it and look forward to seeing them sing it back to us on the road.”

2024 has been a career-defining year for Sam Deep. Aside from his slew of successful releases, he has secured numerous endorsements and international collaborations. This joint project with Azana is set to further elevate his already impressive year, promising to make a significant impact on the South African music scene.

“KwaKhanya” features contributions from renowned producers such as Da Muziqal Chef, De Mthuda, Yumbs, Thabza Tee, and Zar Keys. Each track in the EP reflects the spiritual and emotional depth of the artists’ experiences and beliefs, offering a unique blend of styles and rich musicality. The EP is poised to captivate listeners with its powerful messages and immersive soundscapes.

The full tracklist includes:

  1. PHUMELELA – Sam Deep x Azana

2. MAKUKHANYE – Sam Deep x Azana x Zar Keys feat. Da Muziqal Chef
