In a recent interview with Apple Music, South African house music producer Josiah De Disciple opened up about the creative process and inspiration behind the naming of his latest album, “Satori.” The artist, known for his deep, soulful beats and innovative sound, shared insights into the evolution of his musical identity and the strategic thinking behind his new album title.

Initially inclined to continue with his established series, “Spirit of Makoela,” Josiah faced a pivotal moment of change. His team encouraged him to consider a fresh approach that would resonate with the transformative nature of his latest musical offerings. “We actually had to sit down and rethink the name, because I was actually trying to go back to naming my albums Spirit of Makoela,” Josiah explained. His team’s input was crucial; they felt that the new album, enriched with new elements and a rejuvenated spirit, deserved a name that mirrored this evolution.

The discussion led to a significant introspective journey for Josiah, focusing on how he wanted to be perceived in the broader musical landscape. “What would you like people to know about you?” was the question posed by his team, prompting him to reflect on his personal and professional aspirations. Josiah expressed a desire for wider recognition of his mastery in the music industry, not just among his existing fans but across the whole of South Africa. “I feel like the people know that I have this talent of making music, but I feel like it’s the minority,” he noted, underscoring his ambition to be acknowledged as a leader in his field. “So, I’m looking for like the whole of South Africa to actually know Josiah is actually the king of his thing—that’s the whole aim behind it.”

Choosing the name “Satori” for his album reflects this vision. The term ‘satori’ originates from Zen Buddhism and refers to a moment of profound awakening and understanding, a fitting metaphor for the transformative and refreshing essence of Josiah’s latest work. The title symbolizes not just an artistic rebirth but also a strategic move to position Josiah De Disciple as a key figure in the music industry.

With “Satori,” Josiah De Disciple not only seeks to solidify his status but also to redefine his sound and reach a broader audience. The album is expected to be a pivotal release in his career, marking a moment where his music and his aspirations align perfectly. As the album rolls out, it will undoubtedly be interesting to see how this strategic naming and the music itself will influence his trajectory in the vibrant landscape of South African music.
