“Dalie” Dance Challenge:

Kamo Mphela’s global hit single “Dalie” has taken TikTok by storm, amassing over 1.86 billion views and 120 million likes since its release in October. The accompanying #daliechallenge hashtag has seen an impressive 9.5 million views, making it one of the fastest-growing trends on the platform.

“Yahyuppiyah” Dance Challenge:

Uncle Waffles’ infectious piano hit “Yahyuppiyah,” featuring Pcee, Eeque & Chley, went viral on TikTok even before its official release in March. With 1.8 million videos created worldwide, the challenge has brought together artists and entertainment personalities, including Uncle Waffles herself, Bontle Modiselle, and the late Costa Titch.

“Water” Dance Challenge:

Tyla’s blend of pop, R&B, Afrobeats, and amapiano in “Water” sparked a TikTok craze after she posted videos of herself dancing to the song. The hashtags #TylaWater and #TylaWaterChallenge have garnered a combined 448.6 million views, with over 1.5 million videos featuring fans mimicking her moves.

“Tshwala Bam” Dance Challenge:

The ‘Tshwala Bam’ TikTok challenge has become a social media sensation, with an astonishing 2.3 million videos created in just one week. With 2.6 billion views and 936,000 posts, this challenge highlights the track’s widespread appeal and its ability to resonate with diverse audiences.

“Kilimanjaro” Dance Challenge:

“Kilimanjaro” by Zanten, PCee, and Sgija Disciples has captivated TikTok users with its unique dance challenge. The challenge, which features participants rolling their eyes back as if possessed, has garnered over 1 million views and 816,500 posts, showcasing its popularity on the platform.

From high-energy choreography to infectious beats, these South African dance challenges have become cultural phenomena on TikTok, bringing people together and showcasing the diversity and creativity of the amapiano genre. As the trend continues to evolve, one thing is certain: the amapiano movement shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
