MaXhosa, the renowned South African knitwear brand celebrated for its fusion of traditional Xhosa beadwork patterns with contemporary knitwear, announces the release of their much-anticipated EP, “Sons and Daughters of Credo Mutwa,” in collaboration with Yumbs.
The EP, which has been featured as part of MaXhosa’s runway fashion shows since last year, represents a groundbreaking merger of music and fashion culture. MaXhosa, beloved by global icons including Beyoncé, Swizz Beatz, and Michelle Obama, unveiled their latest collection, “My Conviction,” during Paris Fashion Week on March 3rd, further solidifying their status as a leading force in the fashion world.
Produced by Yumbs and featuring top South African artists such as Khanyisa, Baby S.O.N, and Raspy,“Sons and Daughters of Credo Mutwa” is centered around the voice recordings of the revered Zulu traditional healer and writer, ` known for reimagining international R&B hits, brings his unique touch to the EP, infusing soulful Amapiano tracks with Mutwa’s teachings.
The lead single, “The Earth, uMama,” featuring Credo Mutwa and Khanyisa, sets the tone for the EP, offering a soul-stirring journey into African mythology and traditional Zulu folklore. Mutwa’s profound insights about the traditional reverence for dance as a spiritual tool, are given new life through the infectious rhythms of Amapiano, creating an immersive sonic experience that pays homage to his spiritual and artistic legacy.
Speaking about the collaboration, Maxhosa founder, Laduma Ngxokolo, expressed his excitement, stating, “Sons and Daughters of Credo Mutwa represents a convergence of our shared cultural heritage and creative expression. Embodying the spirit of collaboration, all proceeds generated from this project will be distributed equitably, with equal shares allocated to the Credo Mutwa Estate in collaboration with the estate, as well as the dedicated producers and artists involved.
