“I always look to do something new and introduce my boys to a new community and a new genre of music, that is the exciting part about it.” These are the words of American singer Anthony Hamilton who is in the country for a performance at the weekend.
He was speaking at a media briefing in Sandton on Wednesday after learning about amapiano, saying he is preparing to dish out more dance moves and jump on the amapiano wave.“Whatever amapiano it is, I can dance, I can do it.”
Speaking about his love for South Africa and why he has not composed a song dedicated to this country, he said: “I have written a song, but I do not think that it is as special as it should be.I have worked with a South African artist, Cassper [Nyovest], and I wanted to do something totally different. What we did together had a more American touch than what I intended. I do not think that I have yet done a song for South Africa. There are so many other South African artists that I want to work with. The song with Amanda Black was beautiful, and Zonke is an artist I will talk about forever.“I do not think that I have done my best work for South Africa.”
