Rapper Slogan On Mixing Hip-hop And Amapiano.Born Bulumko Mapukata, Slogan The Rapper is a musician from Butterworth in the Eastern Cape, who has achieved quite a bit in his career so far. He is known for the quality of his beats and bars; he is legit on that international wave.

Slogan spoke to Daily Sun about mixing hip-hop and amapiano.“My observation came when I was in Spain last year. I saw how patriotic people are with their music on that side. That gave me a broader scale of what to do when I returned home. I didn’t want to wear huge clothes and chains like other hip-hop stars. I wanted to be proudly South African, hence the way I dress. I am patriotic in every way possible,” Slogan said.
“I started doing music at a very young age. My music is basically influenced by my father’s pallet in music. He listened to maskandi, kwaito, and contemporary music, and it influenced me. I’m doing hip-hop now, and I’ve found a way to mix it with amapiano.”
His music has been playlisted on several radio stations across the Eastern Cape which is also where he has been performing and building a name for himself. His new single titled Religion has managed climb up to #7 on Google Play Store Hip Hop Worldwide Charts, making him the second artist on the Top 10 Hip Hop Worldwide charts alongside Kwesta. This is a huge milestone for South African music especially when such comes from a growing artist who is still making a name for himself in the global market.
Much like most rappers, Slogan discovered his love and fascination with hip hop at the tender age of 11 and we can say it has been an inseparable love affair since. His earliest influences include ProVerb, Tumi and Jay Z, influence that are still audible in his music today. He started writing his own material at the age of 13 listening to both local and international hip-hop which inspired his decision to rap in English.
