Mellow And Sleazy On How Music From Around The World Influences Their Sound. Mellow, real name Phemelo Sefanyetse, and Sleazy, real name Olebogeng Kwanaite, are also working on a “music celebration,” which will take place in the form of a Bacardi Fest. The festival aims to bring together dance music culture in a night made of amapiano and Bacardi

Over the past few years, no amapiano and/or bacardi duo has been more prolific than Mellow & Sleazy. Yes, not even Scorpion Kings (Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa).Since exploding on to the scene in 2020, Mellow & Sleazy have produced or co-produced countless hits, most notably Daliwonga’s “Abo Mvelo”, Ch’cco’s “Pele Pele” and Focalistic’s “Sjepa”.

While touring the world, the Amapiano duo got exposed to other sounds and have taken a thing or two. “There’s a popular sound from Angola, I don’t know exactly what it’s called and it’s been used all over Africa. It’s been used all over Africa like in Benin and Congo, so we like to use the sound because when we’re creating we like experimenting with different sounds from the world to figure out what sounds nice and what doesn’t. That whole tribal sound is really popular so it’s been dope playing around with it.”

“Yeah, 3 Step is like a new type of Afro house. It’s cool… but the name describes it, you use one kick that repeats three times and we don’t want our music to sound too repetitive, so we could use it in some parts of a song, but probably not the whole song. The future of amapiano is really just more sub-genres, who knows what’s next but we’re excited either way.”
