5 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Bulo. Njabulo Masemola is a 32-year-old who you might know better as just Bulo. His soulful sounds bridge a gap between Afo-pop and the influence of amapiano in a way that makes his work most memorable. He is originally from Middelburg, Mpumalanga, but relocated in his younger years to Soshanguve, Pretoria, and grew up there, allowing the sounds of this hood to mould his artistic outlook.

Here are 5 things you probably didn’t know about him:

He is originally from Witbank, Mpumalanga, but grew up in Middelburg.“In 1996, my family moved to Soshanguve in Pretoria. A close friend of mine taught me how to compose music on an app called FL Studio in 2009. That’s when I learned the basics of music composition. By the time I went to university, I had already knew how to create music using the app,” he said.

He wanted to pursue music, but his parents had no money to pay for his studies.

In 2010, Bulo took a gap year.“My parents could not afford university fees when I finished matric. The following year, I was accepted to study civil engineering. So, in-between my studies, I was composing music. When I finished my degree, I had to stop making music and focus on finding a job to take care of my child,” he recalled.

Besides music, Bulo is also a full-time civil engineer.

Bulo had a baby before time which nearly crashed his dreams.
