JazziQ Explains Why He Didn’t Initially Get Along With Mpura. When Mongezi Stuurman popularly known as Mpura passed on in August 2021, one of his closest industry was JazziQ. The two not only collaborated musically but on other projects as well and would be often spotted together.
In a recent POPcast with Ms Cosmo and Sipho, JazziQ opened up about his friendship and work relationship with Mpura and how they didn’t get along in the beginning. He revealed that they grew up together and Mpura was his junior in school. “I was that one guy who was always super cool. To tell you the truth Mpura and I didn’t click in the beginning because I just felt like he was annoying…I was just like, ‘dawg, just relax’ but I got used to him because he’s no different to what I am,” JazziQ said.
“As time went on and as we grew, we grew to become like… a very strong bond. We became brothers actually, at some point. Before actually he passed away, we were staying together,” he revealed. Talking about their early days, JazziQ said Mpura who started in fashion before music, would always come to him because he was a fashion guy in High School. “We became very close. It was amazing.”
JazziQ revealed Mpura only started making music just before the Covid-19 pandemic. He went on to detail how Mpura ended up on JazziDisciples’ song, ‘Ilanga‘ saying they were in studio and Mpura asked to ‘throw something’ in. “I was like, ‘okay, jump on, let’s see what you can do’. The boy jumped on and it was not the best but it was okay. The song came out and we shot the video… that was also the first piano song to have a video shot by the beach,” JazziQ said bragging.
JazziQ also revealed how the likes of Zuma and Reece were always intimidated by Mpura. “…not because of how the music is done but because he had a much more closer relationship with me so they were just like ahh…, I was just like calm down, we’re all here and we’re all going to win,” JazziQ said.
