Josiah De Disciple Opens Up About The Time He Used To Get Paid With A 6-Pack. Josiah Makoela (born 3 July 1991) is a South African DJ and record producer commonly known as Josiah De Disciple. He is best known for his time with the Amapiano DJ duo, JazziDisciples, alongside Mr JazziQ. The duo split in 2018 to focus on their individual music careers.
Now that the genre has in the past four years grown an international footprint, the Ezizweni muso reminisced of a time he used to get paid R1,500 and a six-pack of cider as his rider [entertainment package] to play at clubs and social gatherings.“During this time, we as the pioneers didn’t care much about the money, we just wanted to play a genre that was loved by the people,” he told Sowetan.
“Around 2018, JazziQ and I formed a group JazziDisciples. The reason behind our formation was because of the 30-minute slots we’d get from promoters of clubs and venues because they had booked a huge number of DJs. So, we came together and thought we should rather play a full-hour set that gave us an advantage. JazziQ and I had a great run but due to personal reasons, we had to split.
Josiah released his debut studio album Spirits of Makoela, Vol. 2: The Reintroduction, after Mr JazziQ’s album Party with the English, which resulted in comparison between the record producers’ projects. His single “Mama”, with Boohle from their collaborative album Umbuso Wabam’nyama, was certified gold by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA).
