Idols SA S8 Winner Thapelo Jumps Into Amapiano . Thapelo Molomo, a warrant officer in the South African Police Service, was crowned the winner of IdolsSAseason 8. Molomo has a B.A (Hons) Psychology degree and began his career in the police service as an intern in the Psychological Services Section and was later employed as a trauma counsellor.

Thapelo is set to drop a four-track EP which is a mixture of genres, including gospel, afro-pop and amapiano. “It was just a mixture of everything on the Idols SA stage. People loved me for different reasons, that’s why I wanted to cater to everyone, because music is meant to make people enjoy and be happy. I know I am a gospel singer, but I thought it was a great opportunity to try other genres because it shows your versatility and you are able to cater to people that don’t really listen to gospel,” he told Sowetan.

Along with the Idols SA title, Molomo walked away with an impressive prize package: just over R1 million cash, made up of R350 000 in a Standard Bank MyMo account, R300 000 from Spotify and R350,000 from Mzansi Magic; access to a Standard Bank wealth manager; a Toyota Starlet; a fashion voucher from Truworths and his live show outfits, all to the value of R100,000; R85,000 worth of musical equipment from Yamaha; and a recording contract with Kalawa Jazmee Records.

Aside from his huge cash prize won on “Idols SA” and his job as a Warrant Officer at the SAPS, Molomo added entrepreneur to his CV since he now sells trays of eggs and atchar from the boot of his car.overlay-clever. While followers had mixed feelings about the singer’s decision to sell eggs, he is not phased by the feedback and has his sights set on expanding his wealth.
