“I Started Amapiano” – Claims Ghanaian Singer, Efya. Jane Fara Fauzzier Afia Boafowaa Yahaya Awindor, better known by her stage name Efya, is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and actress from Kumasi. She is the daughter of Nana Adwoa Awindor, a filmmaker and celebrity host of the late television show Greetings From Abroad.
Popular Ghanaian singer, Jane Afia Awindor, better known as Efya, reportedly said she co-pioneered the genre now known as Amapiano with Wizkid’s official disk jockey, DJ Tunez. She revealed this while featuring as a guest on the latest episode of the Afrobeats Podcast hosted by Adesope. According to Daily Post publication, the star claims she and DJ Tunez started the Amapiano trend in 2019.
She said, “[DJ] Tunez and I started the Amapiano thing when we did that first tape in 2019. Before COVID [19], Tunez and I started making that kind of sound. And then we kept going. Then South Africans,” she told Daily Post publication.
Efya said she hasn’t been able to achieve more because she is an independent artist, but once she gets signed by a record label, she will achieve greater things. She added that she has collaborated with over 150 musicians worldwide.
