Tyla Joins Spotify’s Equal Africa Programme. Tyla has been making headlines since breaking into the mainstream. Signed to Epic Records through a joint venture with Johannesburg/New York-based Fax Records, and co-managed by We Make Music and Africa Creative Agency, Tyla is poised to achieve international dominance with style, soul, and spirit.
South African music sensation Tyla has invented herself as an artist with the power to navigate the boundaries of several music genres. For the month of March, music streaming platform Spotify has announced Tyla as its EQUAL Africa ambassador. She joins fellow South Africans Sio and Elaine who have previously headlined the programme. EQUAL Africa seeks to spotlight and amplify the voices of African female artists breaking down barriers and making waves in music.
‘We are inspired by Tyla’s versatility and her drive to achieve more in the music scene and we welcome her to the EQUAL programme. It is our hope that other young African women creators see this as proof that their talent is valid and can and will be recognised and supported,” says Spotify’s head of music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu.
Following the success of her debut song, which currently sits at over 4 million streams on Spotify, the South African singer has released ‘Overdue’, which was featured on Netflix’s hit series “Blood and Water,” and ‘To Last’, which was remixed by DJ Maphorisa. Her latest single, ‘Been Thinking,’ was released on January 27 alongside a sultry dance music video that sees the South African singer exude Main Pop Girl energy
