Maskandi Artist Mlethwa Majola Jumps Into Amapiano. The music industry has changed dramatically over the last decade. Record sales have plummeted and the way people listen to music has shifted. Artists rely heavily on streaming services and social media to promote their music. Some have found success in the amapiano wave.
The maskandi artist, Mlethwa Majola also known as M_Square, has ventured into amapiano music on his latest single, Hlala Phansi, which features Sgu and MC Mxo. He mentioned that as a musician, he aims to be versatile and explore different genres. “I know people know me as a maskandi artist. However, when I hear great tunes in other genres, I’m bound to try out their sound,” he told Southern Courier.
Since the start of his music career, Mlethwa has won two SATMA awards for best newcomer and best video. With over eight albums under his belt, he is still going strong because his music contains a message for all. He started in 1998 with a group called Izintombi zikaMajola. He then went solo in 2010 with the album Siyabakhumbula.
Mlethwa believes Maskandi taught him perseverance and love because often this genre has not been popular.
During SATMA awards he was also acknowledged for the most downloaded music. He has done much in his community, including performing, hosting events for children and also motivating offenders in prisons.
