She is popularly known for her songs “Yini Na”, “Slala Amalunde” and “Siyathandana”. Her music is a combination of amapiano, afro-house, afro-soul, and gospel.
Boohle opens up about her music career and life during a recent interview on Slikour. The South African vocalist opens up on how her parents wanted her to do gospel music, and how she later gained their support. Boohle grew up in Vosloorus, East of Johannesburg. Even as a young kid she knew she belonged behind the mic. “It all started when I was a kid. I don’t remember anybody telling me do this or do that. I just remember singing with my sisters and at school.”
Then she had to convince her family, which was no small feat. “At home, we were raised Christian and we were not allowed to listen to RnB songs, so we used to listen to the likes of Ntokozo Mbambo.”I would think to myself, I wish I could be like her. It is something that was always at the back of my mind. Even though I wasn’t vocalising it,” Boohle said.
The singer said her consistency and hard work proved her right on the path she chose to go and it earned her their support.“Just work hard and you are responsible for making them understand and believe in your dream. Work hard enough so they do believe and understand.”“My parents always wanted me to go to gospel, that could have been ideal for all of them, church, parents … I made them look at it as music, as a craft; that this is what I like doing. So work hard enough to make them proud,” she said.
