Amapiano Singer Coolkiid Out On Bail Following Rape Allegations. Amapiano is a Subgenre of house music that emerged in South Africa in the mid 2010s. It is a hybrid of deep house, jazz and lounge music characterized by synths and wide percussive basslines. The genre has produced a lot of artists including Coolkiid.
Amapiano singer Coolkiid — real name Avuyile Nkompolo — is out on R2 000 bail after he was arrested on 28 December for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl. According to Daily Sun, the 24-year-old musician, who is famously known for his hit song Inhliziyo, appeared in the Stilfontein Magistrates Court, North West, on Tuesday 17 January.
The publication reported that Coolkiid and the alleged victim met in Stilfontein when she was visiting her father who lives with the singer. A police statement revealed that the alleged victim got excited when she saw celebrities. She allegedly later wrote the Ingelosi hitmaker a letter asking him to have sex with her and he allegedly agreed.
When questioned by her father about a change in her behaviour, the victim told him that she and the musician had sex. This allegedly led to the father physically assaulting Coolkiid, who spent New Year’s Day under police guard at Tshepong Hospital in Klerksdorp as he suffered serious head injuries.
Following the assault, the singer reportedly opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm against the father. During his bail application, Coolkiid was reportedly accompanied by his family and his lawyer Thabang Mofokeng.
The singer reportedly pleaded not guilty and stated why he should be granted bail; citing he is a celebrity and he needs to support his family and pay child maintenance. In addition, his lawyer assured the court that he would stay as his home in Welkom, Free State, even though he is originally from the Eastern Cape. The musician will appear again in court on 9 February.
