“My hope is that this beautiful genre called amapiano grows around the world as it is, but that the world knows and appreciates the fact that it is a South African sound and that South African artists, DJs, producers, etc. are empowered on a global scale and not appropriated.”
The music genre, which originated between the townships of Pretoria and Johannesburg around 2012, has gained international audiences across the globe through artists such as Major League DJs, Scorpion Kings, DBN Gogo and more.
