Idols SA Mpilo On Her Amapiano-inspired Single. The 23-year-old, who comes from Johannesburg, rose to fame following her singing journey on idols SA competition.
Mpilo, as she’s affectionately known, bowed out of the competition with a memorable performance of her own amapiano-inspired single titled Ngiyazifela.
“Getting to perform my own song was an amazing experience. The feedback I got from people and the judges was also amazing. It really made me proud of how far I came because I had fun in the process of the song and I hoped it would have the same impact on other people,” she said
“I did not write the song myself, it was actually written by Zethu, who is a musician. I came up with the harmonies and the ad-libs to enhance the song and add to it. I already had an idea on how the song was supposed to go. I got to perform the song exactly how I wanted to and that feeling was out of this world,” she added.
Mpilo said she realized she could sing in Grade 10. “I only realised it when I was in Grade 10 and singing in church, but I only confirmed it after matric. There was always a good response when I sang and at first, I thought people were lying since it was my family who would get excited when I sing and family is always supposed to cheer for you anyway. So, I wasn’t really sure until I met a group of musicians who listened to me and liked it and that’s when I started to believe that I actually do have this talent.”
