Maphorisa Retracts His Claims Of Slapping MacG. DJ Maphorisa is touted as the success and legendary producer-DJ who introduced the world to Kabza de Small and defined the now dominant house sub-genre of Amapiano. Through Kabza de Small and his own record label, Blaq Boi Records, they have been responsible for some of the biggest Amapiano stars in the game right now. The likes of Young Stunna, DaliWonga and Nkosazana Daughter.
While this has meant he receives his flowers while he is still alive, it has also perpetuated the ongoing and growing speculation that he is a gatekeeper within the music genre. A suggestion which recently was perpetuated by controversial podcaster and producer-DJ, MacG. After threatening to slap MacG after he sess him, Maphorisa has retracted his claims saying he was trolling and it won’t happed.
During one of the Monday episodes, MacG accused DJ Maphorisa of being a gatekeeper in Amapiano. He alleged that any Amapiano artist that was looking to make a name for themselves or even get radio play need to get Maphorisa’s approval. MacG’s chillers have come to his defence after DJ Maphorisa basically threatened to beat him up when they meet in person. This comes after the popular podcaster called the DJ an “amapiano gatekeeper” on his YouTube podcast “Podcast and Chill with MacG” last month. “He is not my father, broe. F**k him. He can eat a d**k. If he f***s around, I won’t even drop an EP. I’ll drop an album,” said MacG.
MacG said that people were asking him whether he has approached Phori regarding his upcoming amapiano EP.At the time he said: “Let me tell you a story about gatekeeping. There is someone who told me that Maphorisa is going to be mad that I am dropping an EP, and I did not ask for his approval.“Now, I must ask Maphorisa before I drop an EP. They said Maphorisa is going to be mad because I did not ask for his approval because he is a gatekeeper.”
