Maphorisa Slams The SAMAs After Being Snubbed. The full list of winners for the 2022 edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) were announced at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg on 28 August.

DJ Maphorisa is furious on Twitter after being passed over for major awards at #SAMA28. The extravagant two-day award show, held on August 27 and 28, saw many big names in the SA music industry, including Zakes Bantwini and Makhadzi, walked away with awards. Despite being the most nominated artist for #SAMA28, Maphorisa lost on many of those categories. He only received one award, which was for the most streamed song of the year. Taking to Twitter, the talented DJ shared a fiery post after losing major categories such as Record of the Year and Music Video of the Year. He slammed #SAMA28 by saying: “U cnt cheat the numbers🤪 n FUCK the samas forever 🤞🏾 doesn’t even bring food on the table.”

The first batch of winners were announced at the same venue on 27 August. The second day of the awards ceremony, which was hosted by Nandi Madida, Lawrence Maleka, Mpho Popps, Robot Boii and Alphi Sipho Mkhwanazi, featured performances from Stogie T, A Reece and Tshego, with an emotive tribute to the late Riky Rick. Other performers include Makhadzi, Takie Ndou, Shekinah, Musa Keys, Konke, Da Capo and Lloyiso.

Having won the Best Dance Album, Chymamusique also took home the top awards including Male Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. For his smash hit ‘Osama’, Zakes Bantwini, who recently announced he would be hanging up his microphone, clinched two trophies for Best Collaboration and SAMRO Highest Radio Airplay Composer awards.
