Since emerging in 2012, amapiano has fast become the biggest music movement in South Africa in terms of consumption and has attracted attention around the world. Over the past decade, the twins have shown themselves to be skilled chameleons, equipped with an ability to shapeshift to make the most of what’s happening around them. After a successful stint hosting parties, they embarked on their DJ journey in 2009, right after high school.
Major League Djz have taken to social media to congratulate their fellow industry mates Young Stunna, Blxckie, Amaroto and Musa Keys for winning big at the SAMAs held on Sunday, 28 August. The full list of winners for the 2022 edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) were announced at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg. Check it out:
The first batch of winners were announced at the same venue on 27 August. The second day of the awards ceremony, which was hosted by Nandi Madida, Lawrence Maleka, Mpho Popps, Robot Boii and Alphi Sipho Mkhwanazi, featured performances from Stogie T, A Reece and Tshego, with an emotive tribute to the late Riky Rick. Other performers include Makhadzi, Takie Ndou, Shekinah, Musa Keys, Konke, Da Capo and Lloyiso.
Haksul Muziq stunned viewers when he won the SAMPRA Artist of the Year award, beating out formidable competition. In addition, Makhadzi’s Ghanama featuring Prince Benza won the TECNO Music Video of the Year award, while Musa Keys’ Vula Mlomo won the TECNO Record of the Year award. In the inaugural TikTok Viral Song of the Year award, ‘uMlando’ by 9umba, Mdoovar and Toss clinched a win.
