Haksul Muziq Responds To Receiving Backlash After Winning A SAMA Against Big Names Like Young Stunna. Tokoloho Mavuso, better known as Haksul Muziq was born and bred in Ekurhuleni, in the east of Johannesburg. He has been in the music industry since he was seven and became a DJ at 16 years old.
The excitement over who bags this coveted title never gets old, and over the years has left many crushed by a wave of disappointment. When Haksul Muziq was announced as the South African Music Performance Rights Association (Sampra) artist of the year, fans on social media could not help but ask who he was and caused stir around his win. Haksul Muziq faced off with popular artists such as Young Stunna, Emtee, A-Reece, Musa Keys, Rodger KB, Makhadzi and Msaki, among others.
Responding to the backlash, Haksul said: “We have a lot of events in Katlehong, and I made sure to go to most of the events and ask for votes. I even campaigned at events held by political parties. I make pamphlets and handed them out encouraging people vote for someone that’s local trying to make it big.”
Haksul’s plan worked as the award ceremony spokesperson Leslie Mofokeng said the musician met all the requirements that they have released music within the year and accepted the award ceremonies rules. The spokesperson also encouraged South Africans to appreciate that Haksul “managed to run a successful campaign, he took this opportunity seriously and pushed himself.”
According to the local star, music has been part of him since he was seven years old when he was playing drums and singing. He then became a DJ at the age of 16. He said it felt as if the music was dominating him.“I was so fortunate to have my parents by my side because they always believed in me, and they encouraged me to be cultivated in everything I do to produce the best results,” said Haksul.
