Aymos Opens Up About His New Single Dedicated To His inspirational Mother. Singer and songwriter Babili Amos Shili (27), popularly known by his stage name Aymos, has been making amapiano hits and he’s loving the rise of the genre. Born and bred in Tembisa, his fondest memories of music include singing praise and worship at church and leading a choir in high school.
Aymos is set to drop his new song titled Mama on Friday, 19 August. The single is an ode to his mother who has been an inspiration to him. He hopes his fans will resonate with the song the same way he does. “Our mothers do a lot for us, and this song is a reminder of the great women that they are to us.”
While August is the month dedicated to women, Aymos shared that growing up he had dreams of working in the same profession as his mother. “My mom was a nurse and she would take me with her to her night shifts because there wasn’t anyone to babysit me… so, I basically grew up at the hospital. I remember starting to get used to the hospital environment that I ended up envying the staff who worked there,” Aymos said.
“I loved seeing how people would walk into the hospital and come out feeling better. The determination the staff had to make people recover to good health sparked an admirable spirit within me that made me believe that I would also work as a nurse when I grew up… but that didn’t happen,” he added.
Aymos found his big break into the industry after working on a song with Mas Musiq. At the time he was not completely sold on the amapiano genre and was under the impression that it wasn’t musical enough. “We did an amapinao remix of afro soul song Zaka Zaka and it became a hit. That’s when I met DJ Maphorisa and I haven’t looked back ever since.”
