3 Times ShaSha Made Headlines As She Celebrates Her Birthday Today. Sha Sha, who is the first Zimbabwean artist to win a BET award, launched her music career at the age of 19 in 2013. She collaborated with leading producers DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small and singer Samthing Soweto on her debut EP Blossom. As a result, she has earned the ‘Queen of Amapiano‘ title.
The star is currently celebrating her today, 13 July. Check out the 3 times Sha Sha made headlines:
Sha Sha signed an artist management deal with the South African company Black Major. She joined the likes of local artists Sho Madjozi, DJ Lag, Bokani Dyer, Bongeziwe Mabandla, BCUC and Radio Sechaba, among others. The deal will see the ‘Tender Love’ hitmaker broaden her music and live performances in southern Africa, with a number of international tours planned later this year. It comes ahead of the release of her ‘iPiano’ video featuring Kamo Mphela and Felo Le Tee on 24 June. This will be followed by a number of new singles, leading up to the release of her new album I’m Alive on 26 August.
Sha Sha pulled a no-show at the Victoria Falls Carnival in Zimbabwe where she was billed to perform alongside Kabza Da Small and Maphorisa in April. The amapiano vocalist, real name Charmaine Shamiso Mapimbiro, took to social media to apologise to her fans, saying the changes in her life have also seen her take a break from social media. “I’m at a moment that marks the end of some things, but the wonderful beginnings of others too,” she wrote, promising that she is working on a plan to perform for her disappointed fans in the future. ShaSha broke her silence after she, Kabza Da Small and Maphorisa were slapped with a letter of demand for R500 000 by Zimbabwean impresarios for their failure to perform at the widely publicised annual gig.
The BET award winner continues her reign of dominance on her Amapiano throne as she recently dropped Ungowami (Loosely translated as ‘you are mine’) featuring Soulful Amapiano DJ and Producer Soa Mattrix. The Amapino love song Ungowam’ also launched the pre-order of her upcoming album titled I’m Alive. Speaking about the inspiration of Ungowami Sha Sha shared; “Ungowami is a love song. About finding that true partner that you wish you would find. A soulmate.” On working with Soa Matrix, Sha Sha said; “I used to hear his music everywhere. He brings these beautiful chords. I was mostly inspired by the chords, they are actually heart strings. It was a perfect fit to the lyrics and the perspective on love that the song talks about. Love is always going to be a drive for me. Not only love in relationships but primarily love for yourself.”
