Maphorisa Details How Most Artists Keep Following His Steps. Maphorisa first shot to fame in 2013 as part of the multifarious musical group, Uhuru. The group blew up off the anthemic Y-Tjukutja in 2013, which owned the summer. Maphorisa has been releasing quality music at a frantic pace. His foray into amapiano has been nothing short of spectacular. The ease with which he’s made the transition is unsurprising. After all, this is the same guy who’s produced hits across several genres for artists like Kwesta (Ngud), Busiswa (Lahla), Professor (Jezebel), Shekinah (Suited) and Zingah (Dlala).
Maphorisa opened up about how most artists have been following his steps. He shared how he signed with Electromode record label about three years ago, and everyone did just that. His move few years later to Sony record label saw most artists as well jump into the same record label because he had. “I signed with Electromode 3 years ago everyone followed n signed with distributors i changed my mind signed with Sony Major label, look wats happening everyone is signing with a major label I switched the market share chief facts I signed the biggest deal with Sony in SA,” he wrote.
When asked if amapiano has reached it’s full potential in South Africa, Maphorisa said: “Amapiano hasn’t even reached its full potential globally, the genre has so many variations at the moment, eg. “Sgija”, and “Tech” piano that is already crossing over but regardless it will always be amapiano. It’s a genre that can adapt to many spaces and still remain true to its original sound, that’s the power that will lead the genre to world domination. As I said, it’s only the beginning, and thus far its reach has exceeded our expectations.”
“Amapiano will be a household name in its own right. A force to be reckoned with, the goal is for the sound to be recognised like pop, hip hop, house etc. 5 years from now we will continue to work as a collective to get it there or at least close to there,” he added.
