The Ghost Producer Behind SA’s Popular Amapiano Hits Revealed. Ever wondered who is behind some of the biggest amapiano hits? Though some industry titans are the face of the song, there’s a ghost producer behind some SA’s popular amapiano hits. A few years ago, the streets and the airwaves agreed that Amapino had transitioned from the underground, taken over mainstream broadcast, created household names and become the definitive sound for this era in South African music. In the short time since younger producers and DJs, mostly new to the industry have been moulding the future of the Amapiano sound and gaining recognition for it.
Meet Tony Duardo, a ghost producer who is responsible for making some of the biggest hits currently playing on the airwaves. He is behind the songs Bank Notification by Ciza and DJ Maphorisa and produced major hits by Gazza, Major League, Sino Msolo and Daliwonga. His most recent creation is the hit song titled Tanzania by DJ sensation Uncle Waffles, featuring Sino Msolo and Boibizza.
At first, Tony was reluctant to come to the forefront and be seen. However, the ghost-producer, singer, writer, drummer, guitarist, pianist, producer and engineer Antonio-David Hampton Eduardo, known by his artist name Tony Duardo, is now ready to show the world his skills and put a face to his songs.
He has been making music since he was a teenager and was comfortable being in the background. His production skills have landed him in different countries on the African continent such as Nigeria, Ghana, the UK, Tanzania, DRC, and Angola. People in the music industry started seeing his name after he started working with music mogul TK Nciza. “TK took me under his wing in 2019. He has a brilliant mind and eye for talent, and he saw what many others were in denial of,” he said.
