Kabza De Small Opens Up About Doing Maskandi Music. Kabza De Small, dubbed the ‘Amapiano King,’ is one of the country’s up-and-coming young deejays. To date, he’s released a slew of smash tunes that keep fans on the dance floor till the wee hours of the morning. He is also a songwriter, DJ, and performer on the stage.
Announcing this transition was Maskandi superstar Mthandeni who jokingly said Kabza is a fan of his and he is showing him the ropes. Speaking to Daily Sun, he said he might have been one of the people to pioneer Amapiano, but he is a huge fan of Maskandi music. He even at times listens to Maskandi music and fell in love with it. He respects culture and loves what the genre stands for.“I’m known for amapiano music but deep down I am Ibhinca. Whenever I get a chance I listen to maskandi…For me being Ibhinca means everything and anything that talks to respecting culture, it means ubuntu and showing compassion to one another.”
He told the publication that this transition has been something that has been in his mind for some time now, “I believe music is a universal language and I decided to follow my heart. This idea of doing Maskandi music has been in my mind for some time. I’ve always known that sooner or later I have to do it.”
In all the Mzansi dancefloors and radio charts, Amapiano music takes over and there is no doubting it’s impact. Which is why Kabza would not dare leave the genre behind and completely transition to Maskandi. “This does not mean I’ll stop doing Amapiano but I’ll be exploring other genres. For now I feel comfortable in Maskandi and I’m enjoying it.”
