Amapiano Artists React To The Death Of DJ City Lyts. Sandile Mkhize, popularly known as DJ Citi Lyts, has tragically passed away after an alleged hijacking incident in Soweto on Sunday. Sandile was the brother of the late hip-hop artist Pro Kid (real name Linda Mkhize). News broke on Twitter from the hip-hop fraternity and reports suggested that the DJ was killed after he was allegedly shot eight times during a hijacking in Johannesburg.
“I can confirm that Sandile passed away at 12:30 am in the morning,” family spokesperson Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini revealed. “They were ambushed and that is ambushed that is the best way to put it. They coupled up; four guys came out of nowhere, stopped them, and shot them in their heads. They fought as much as they can, and the guys shot them. I can’t confirm how many they were in the car yet, but this happened at Dube, Soweto.”
With his death being announced, fans and friends filled social media timeline with condolences and shock, after realising how he was brutally killed. Amapiano artists have reacted to the loss of their industry friend, sharing their emotions. Many artists sent their condolences to DJ Citi Lyts’ family, including the likes of Maphorisa, Sir Trill, Cassper Nyovest, Kamo Mphela, Riky Rick and DJ Clive.
City Lyts was known for his hits Washa, Vura and Malambane. Collaborating with many rappers and artists such Fifi Cooper, Emtee, Sjava and Blaq Diamond.
