10 Things You Should Know About DJ Slade ‘The Boy Slade’. DJ Slade hasn’t been around for long, but he is making his presence felt in the music industry. His debut song Barman, released in March, started the momentum. By the time he released his latest single Wamuhle, he had already made a name for himself. 

Here are 10 things you should know about DJ Slade:

  1. His real name is Sihle “Slade” Jiyana
  2. As of 2022, lade i 26 years of age.
  3. He first gained fame on Tik Tok before the release of his music. “I did a video with some friends dancing to my song before its release and it gained so much traction,” he revealed.
  4. The self-taught DJ started making music more than three years ago. “I used to hang out almost every day at a friend’s studio, watching and observing how they worked and that is where I learned how to DJ and how to conduct myself like the star that I was going to become,” he says.
  5. He first taught himself how to use a digital DJ program called Virtual DJ. “It’s the best thing for beginners, and I taught myself the basics before moving onto proper DJ equipment.”
  6. Having spent a lot of time with musicians, he thought he would one day be a rapper. “I tried my hand in the rapping thing. But that was a complete flop. I did a few Hip-Hop songs that were terrible, but I had to realise that I was a horrible rapper and I chose to stick to what I enjoyed and what didn’t seem like work to me, and that was DJing.”
  7. He plays house, Hip-Hop, Amapiano but says he refuses to be boxed.
  8. The Roodeport, Johannesburg-born DJ says at the lowest time in his life, Slade says music was his comfort.
  9. He lost his mother about 3 years ago. “I lost my mom in 2019 and had to move in with my dad in a totally different environment and needed to adjust to the drastic life changes. Music became my comfort. I spent most of my time practicing, venting, and taking out all my frustration on the music and it helped me in a way.”
  10. Slade looks up to DJs Shimza and Black Coffee and hopes to one day collaborate with them. “I know it will happen, it’s only a matter of time. But for now, I will focus on making people happy this festive season,” Slade says.
