Lady Du Opens Up About How She Almost Lost Her Life Last Week. With a career dating back to the early 2000s, singer, rapper, and DJ Lady Du found international success after refining her sound to become a leading figure in amapiano, which exploded as a worldwide phenomenon at the dawn of the 2020s.
DJ Lady Du has shared her doctor calls her a “miracle baby” for defying the odds and still going strong as a singer despite her lung problem which she says has symptoms similar to asthma. Few days later, the star shared that she almost lost her life due to heat stroke. She also advised her fellow industry peers to rest when they feel tired before money means nothing when ones health is compromised.
“I’ve had the toughest week ever, I almost lost my life last week, I posted about my breathing condition not so long ago, I came back from work had a heat stroke, my whole body went into shock, I couldn’t breath or walk, I’ve been sleeping for the past week. In all of that I realized how important it is to be closer to my family, everyone carries on with their lives won’t even notice you’re not there or there’s no activity to even ask. I’m in a different space.I usually post when I have over come something, guys rest, one day you’ll pass out and it might be your last day, no amount of money is worth your life. When you feel tired sleep. Take breaks.I thank God for saving my life, I swear I thought it was my last day.Time to rockBack to studio,” she wrote.
Hailing from a musical family (which includes her father, DJ Choc, and uncle, DJ Zan D), Lady Du naturally gravitated toward DJing as a child, and went on to win national competitions. Though she was initially known for house music, Lady Du now works alongside some of the biggest names in amapiano including DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small, and has produced hits like “Umsebenzi Wethu” alongside Busta 929, Mpura, Reece Madlisa, Mr JazziQ, and Zuma. Her rich vocals and commanding rasp are an ideal fit for amapiano’s subdued, synth-heavy grooves. The Umsebenzi Wethu hitmaker is a performer and singer and makes her living from travelling and doing gigs. She said she would look drained and tired but would still keep pushing, knowing that only once in the comfort of her home could she allow herself to feel weak.“I’d love to go to gym but I can’t, I’d like to run on a hill but I can’t, I’d like to play around with my daughter running after her but I can’t. I can’t sit in rooms with smoke. I can’t eat certain fruits.”
