Former Idols SA Contestant Dinky Kunene Gets Candid On Venturing Into Amapiano. The house singer who hails from Ennerdale in Johannesburg, Dinky Kunene was a contestant on Idols SA where she made headlines for her melodic voice. It was the 24-year-old’s second time around in the competition of 2018’s season where she was eliminated in the Theatre Week phase.
Dinky said everyday life experiences play a big role in influencing and inspiring her musical melody and lyrics.” I’ve always believed in using my talent for a bigger course. From the days when I used to be in a church choir and school choir, I’ve always aimed to use my music and lyrics to tell stories and restore hope in the people while also reminding them to never give up on their dreams,” said Dinky.
She has also worked with some of the most talented people in the music industry, including amapiano, such as the likes of Mdu TRP, Bontle Smith, Job and Divakes x Nitax (Job and Divakes x Nitax are featured in the recent offering, Boomba) “Amapiano is taking over the world right now and that is because it is really good music. As a vocalist and musician in general I find that there is a lot of synergy with my original style and Amapiano. I really enjoyed making the song. And people are really responding well to it. If anything, people can look forward to being ushered into summer with good sounds,” she added.
Speaking on auditioning again not making it on Idols SA season 14, Dinky said she wanted to prove to herself to never give up. “If I didn’t make it this far my second time around, I wasn’t planning on coming back to audition again. Me coming back this time was to prove to myself that you never give up on yourself. And I didn’t make it, and that’s okay because this was still a win for me.”
