Shimza Responds To Maphorisa’s Claims That He Does Not Work With Upcoming Artists. DJ Maphorisa started a ‘friendly’ beef with DJ Shimza for his failure to uplift young talent. In a thread of heated exchanges between the two DJs, Maphorisa told Shimza to give the “ghost producers” on his track some credit.
Shimza quickly defended himself, saying he was building the South African music industry through his record label and Kunye events. “That’s what my label Kunye Records is for Phori, that’s why I started the label, that’s why we now have an event called Kunye that showcases the music and streams the sets online so that people can put the face to the names bro. We all work differently bro,” Shimza wrote.
Shimza further said that he is releasing EPs for the artists under the label and hosting events for them to showcase their talents. “It’s happening, maybe not as quick as you want it to but it’s coming, I had to take a stand and create something for that same reason. I’m just not too vocal about it. We are growing and we going to keep pushing one day at a time,” wrote Shimza.
This comes after Maphrisa called Shimza out for not helping upcoming artists. “Why you always make music alone. no young up and coming nyana everytime Shimza’s alone. Grow this afro movement uplift young talent bro please. That’s why they end up hating us cause you close doors. Don’t tell me you made that beat alone, sorry but I had to take out my chest in front of everyone. love you mfanaka but I can’t!” Maphorisa commented on Shimza’s post.
