Kamo Mphela Reacts To Winning ‘Artist Of The Year’ At Amapiano Awards. Kamogelo Mphela, is a South African dancer and singer. She became an internet celebrity after she posted a video of her dancing on her social media account. Kamo Mphela’s success has been extremely rapid, and probably intense for a 21-year-old artist.
Kamo Mphela scored the ‘artist of the year’ award at the Amapiano Awards that took place this Saturday on the 23rd of October 2021. The star was quite happy about the achievement considering that she has just made it into the mainstream at such a young age. “Artist of the year man , it’s truly God and hard work let the real journey begin truly grateful,” she wrote. Detailing her rise to fame, Kamo also told the story of how the biggest amapiano song, Jobe, that launched her career came about. “Jr met Jobe and after a video of me promoting the song went viral on Twitter they wanted me on the track. The song was already done and I put my vocals on it. I didn’t even know that the Jobe song had splits.”
The dancer revealed that she wants to make the most out of her fame because it doesn’t last very long. “The fame doesn’t last that long so you have to make the most of it while you still have time. That’s what people don’t understand. It’s not a lifetime thing unless you are legendary. Cassper is still the biggest artist but he still has to convince people that he is the best. I don’t want to go through that personally. There’s only so much you can do in your own country. Fill Up was the biggest so what’s next? It’s easy to get to the top but it’s hard to stay there,” she added.
The genre, amapiano, has been sending artists to perform everywhere on the continent, but that is not enough for the singer, who doesn’t take the “Amapiano Queen” title as a compliment. “When they say amapiano queen, they are putting me in one box. But I like dance music and that’s my whole thing, so I want to be able to do afrobeats, to do any dance music that anybody resonates. Even in South Africa: Kwaito, Gqom… I can do anything. I think I’m an entertainer. I don’t want to use a lot of tags defining who I am. I just want to do everything that’s around me, my career, my brand”, she said.
