Amapiano Organisation Doesn’t Recognise Cassper And Riky Rick As Amapiano Artists. Amapiano is a genre that’s been growing in leaps and bounds in SA and abroad, so it seemed fitting that it be celebrated with the first Amapiano Awards ceremony. The historical event was held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg and the pioneers of the genre were lauded for their work.  The winners for the inaugural South African Amapiano Awards were announced during the weekend.

Riky Rick and Lady Lu won the Friends of Amapiano and Best Female Amapiano Artist awards, respectively. While Cassper who was under the same category with an amapiano album was not recognised. This made people question if whether Cassper is not recognised as a friend of amapiano. Riky Rick, however, has introduced some of the biggest stars that amapiano fans recognise today such as Uncle Vinny.

So they are just friends?

Boohle and Kamo Mphela won two awards apiece – the former taking home the Best Amapiano Newcomer and Best Amapiano Vocalist awards and the latter triumphing in the Best Amapiano Dance Act and Amapiano Artist of the Year categories. The Best Amapiano Album of the Year Award went to De Mthuda for Ace Of Spades.
