Maphorisa Jokingly Shares His Industry Results. Music producer DJ Maphorisa has BEEN in the entertainment industry, and believes that after more than 10 years he finally has it on lock.
With Maphorisa having been in the music industry for quite a while now, he went on to social media to mark himself according to how he feels he has has contributed in that genre. See his results:
Maphorisa grew up in Soshanguve, Tshwane, and there was always music in his home. “I collected more than 10 000 music files on my computer. Every day after school, I would run home to share my music with friends. Music is my life and it comforts me when I’m sad,” he told the Daily Sun in an interview. Now he’s known as the man with the Midas touch on Mzansi’s music scene, making superstars out of the new talent he discovers.
Like every other artist, Phori also got his motivation from somewhere to invest in amapiano. “With my gigs, I wanted to understand people’s reactions to this new sound because amapiano was underground. What really sparked my interest in the genre was that, at the time, I was looking to get into something that originated in South Africa. Amapiano is part of kwaito and dance music. When I started working with Afrobeats, which hails from Western Africa, I felt that we didn’t have a sound that strongly represented South Africa. When I started paying close attention to amapiano, I knew that this was a sound that would take South Africa to the world. There’s a lot that you can do with amapiano — you can make it soulful, funky, dusty and hard or jazz it up.”
