JazziQ Reveals The Nigerian Artist That Slid In His DMs. Alexandra-born Mr JazziQ first emerged as one-half of JazziDisciples, a South African DJ/producer duo which released a slate of projects that played an important role in Amapiano’s rapid journey from the township into the heart of the mainstream. And now, in 2021, Tumelo Manyoni has his eyes on a bigger prize: using his homegrown success to take over the global music scene.
JazziQ is ready to take over the global scene with his music. He took to social media to share a screenshot of the Nigerian artist who sent him a DM. The star was pleased to finally get a text from Nigerian AFrobeat star Davido, who seemed to be trying to get hold of the amapiano star. “It’s really not about. Who did it first but it right! Adiwele!!!,” he wrote.
It’s a big ambition but Mr JazziQ already has a track record that many long-established labels would envy. At first DJing in DJ JazziQ’s home township of Alexandra, and then quickly expanding into Thembisa and Soweto, the star began filming gigs and including new tracks into his sets – and then shared these on different social media platforms. It helped create an appetite for his music in the club-going crowds.
Citing House legends, from Oskido to Shimza, Culoe Da Song, and Black Coffee as influences, the solo sound that Mr JazziQ has been developing since 2020 is “definitely more commercial”. “It’s also upbeat and is made for people to respond to instantly – whether something to sing along or dance to – or to listen to while relaxing,” he said.
