JazziQ Reacts To Claims That Gqom Is Dead. Mr JazziQ real name Tumelo Manyoni first emerged as one-half of JazziDisciples, a South African DJ/producer duo which released a slate of projects that played an important role in Amapiano’s rapid journey from the township into the heart of the mainstream. And now, in 2021, Tumelo Manyoni has his eyes on a bigger prize: using his homegrown success to take over the global music scene.
Mr JazziQ took to social media to react and address claims that Gqom is dead. He wrote, “To all you guys who keep saying Gqom is dead. Did you kill it? With it without I’ll rock it like no one’s business!” See tweet:
Gqom and Amapiano are undoubtedly the most played and spoken about genres in the South African music industry currently. Even though the two genres come from opposite sides of the house music spectrum, they both emerged from the townships- in Durban and Pretoria respectively.
The star is currently rocking the UK, playing and introducing amapiano to a wider audience outside Mzansi. However, he seems to have a huge interest in playing the two genres respectively. Amapiano has always been around, however, some of it’s pioneers have found ways to make the sound more enjoyable as it does today. Gqom was conceived in the backrooms of then up-and-coming house producers in Durban and found an audience in people who lived in the townships.
