DJ Cleo Remixes Zakes’s Afrotech Hit Single Into Amapiano. Amapiano producers and artists are always at work, dropping hits, and are currently the most booked in the country, despite the pandemic and its regulations on public events. Streaming data and charts also show that amapiano is the most streamed genre at the moment. A majority of the 10 most streamed South African songs of 2021 by the country’s youth on Spotify were amapiano. Award-winning musician and producer DJ Cleo made a comeback into the music industry recently, sliding into the Amapiano scene.
With Zakes’s Afrotech single ‘Osama’ being one of the most anticipated track in the country, DJ Cleo decided to put a spin on the song by remixing it into amapiano on one of his mixes. The star took to social media to share the announcement with his fans and followers. He wrote, “That OSAMA piano remix everyone’s been raving abt is also in the mix 60mins of hit jams like u’ve never heard them before.”
It started when Zakes played a set at one of DJ Shimza’s Kunye events. As part of his playlist, Zakes shared his upcoming track Osama. It wasn’t that long after the star started trending on Twitter, with fans going crazy over the house song. So the song is Osama, which is Zakes Bantwini and Kasango,” the muso explained in the clip, adding that the track will officially be available on 17 September.
As for the song’s instant success, Zakes said he did not expect it to blow up that quickly, which is why the release date was set that far away.”I did not think that people were going to just… you know… it was going to catch fire immediately. I thought it was going to grow; something that has to grow with people until such time that people wanted to hear it, and it surprised us.”
