“Thong Yona,” Cassper Pokes Fun At Focalistic’s Dubai Getaway. Focalistic, real name Lethabo Sebetso, has become the poster boy of genre-blending, the music style of local hip hop and Amapiano. Focalistic’s raps are in Sepitori—a vernacular spoken in Pretoria townships made up of a variety of South African languages, mostly Sesotho, Setswana and tsotsitaal (slang).
Focalistic is currently touring Dubai for his international gigs and tours, as a result, he has been taking snaps of himself touring the cities to show his fans what he has been up to. He recently shared a snap of himself captioned, “ON A YATCH… IN DUBAI.” Which caught the attention of fans, including Cssper Nyovest who made fun of the capton referencing the then trending Tik Tok video of a 19-year old.
Focalistic also responded to Cassper’s tweet laughing and asking if whether Cassper is being involved in the thong issue.
A year ago, Focalistic was relatively unknown but first got the attention of SA with his guest appearance on Sandton by DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small. When the Covid-19 lockdown hit SA, he saw it as an opportunity to introduce Mzansi to his unique sound.
Speaking on jumping into amapiano, Foca said: “As you can see, this is where I grew up, Ga-Rankuwa. The car that just passed now is playing a house song, one taxi’s playing house music, the next one is playing R&B, the next one is playing something else. Amapiano is from Kwaito, so it was a natural thing. It was never a decision of let me switch bands… people make it like there’s two different genres; hip hop and amapiano, for me it’s never felt like that, it’s one thing; good music.”
