DJ Maphorisa Reveals The One Thing Only He Can Do In The Whole World. Maphorisa, who’s long earned his belt for pumping out hits for almost a decade — from Uhuru’s “Y-tjukutja” and Mafikizolo’s “Khona” to his own “Oncamnce” featuring Stilo Magolide, Kwesta and Zingah, has been making headlines recently and all for the right reasons.
Maphorisa took to social media to make it known that he is the only person in the world who can feature himself. Simply put, Maphorisa is a disc jockey and a record producer, however, whenever he is not behind the decks, he is behind the mic as Madumane. The star has been showing off Madumane’s talent recently on a couple of amapiano tracks where he featured himself on the vocals.
Interestingly enough, Maphorisa has featured on other amapiano hits as Madumane, but the name seems to go over most people’s heads as they often try to figure out who Madumane is. DJ Maphorisa has featured on DJ Stokie’s Superman, Kabza de Small’s Masupa, and Felo Le Tee’s Ngwana Mani, his own hit song Izolo all as Madumane.
The star is one of the pioneers of amapiano, who helped in growing the Amapiano movement and introducing it to a wider audience. Speaking on what motivated him to invest in amapiano, the star said: “With my gigs, I wanted to understand people’s reactions to this new sound because amapiano was underground. What really sparked my interest in the genre was that, at the time, I was looking to get into something that originated in South Africa. Amapiano is part of kwaito and dance music. When I started working with Afrobeats, which hails from Western Africa, I felt that we didn’t have a sound that strongly represented South Africa. When I started paying close attention to amapiano, I knew that this was a sound that would take South Africa to the world. There’s a lot that you can do with amapiano — you can make it soulful, funky, dusty and hard or jazz it up.”
