Watch! Focalistic Teases Another Nigerian Amapiano Collaboration. Focalistic has switched from rapping in English on typical Trap or Hip-Hop beats to rapping on proper African pop/amapiano music. With that said, Focalistic has become one of the leading amapiao artists who have officially introduced amapiano to the rest of African countries. Following his biggest collaboration with Davido which he said heralds the next phase of his career, Foca has something big in store for his fans.
Focalistic is in studio working with Nigerian disc jockey and record producer DJ Neptune working on an amapiano banger. The track was teased on social media after DJ Neptune made an announcement and captioned it: “Made an anthem last night w/ my G @FOCALISTIC !!! Greatness x Danko – “YB” give us a release date. #1 on arrival, incoming #Amapiano . @magicsticksbeat on the (drum emoji) @ckay_yo in the cut.” See tweet:
Speaking to Pulse in Nigeria about the role internet plays in ones music, Foca said: “The internet makes it easy to measure responses to your music these days. It also makes you realize that you need to take the music to another country. The week ‘Sandton’ dropped, my Instagram stories were filled with Nigerians. At that moment, I started thinking about getting outside South Africa to go see my fans. Even the dance was different.”
“A lot of this has to do with how we’ve honestly accepted ourselves as Africans. Now, America is looking to us for inspiration. In South Africa, there was a time when we’d go, ‘Oh sh*t, that’s a Nigerian.’ Now, everybody wants to be Nigerian because of the music. Governments need to start looking into the power and influence of pop culture and music. We learn a lot from music and music videos. They drive desirability and that’s been aided by the internet. You look at music and you want to be Davido, Burna or Wizkid. You look at Amapiano and you want to dance like a South African. We’re prouder of being African right now,” Focalistic explained on the growth on amapiano and what it means to him.
