Uncle Vinny Trends On Twitter After His Nomination On Amapiano Awards. South Africa’s very first amapiano awards were announced on Monday 19 July. Amapiano artists in the country are being recognised with an award show that focuses on them and their sound. The announcement of the first South African Amapiano Music Awards was made on Twitter to highlight notable achievers within a genre that’s taking the world by storm, and unsurprisingly, many South African Twitter users are not all that impressed.
Uncle Vinny was nominated under the category of best amapiano dance act, but Black Twitter disagrees, as they consider Vinny a trendsetter rather than a dancer. Under the same category, are popular names like Kamo Mphela, Pabi Cooper, Bontle Smith and Lungy Gwala.
Ever since a video of him dancing to the Yanos trended all over social media, everyone has been curious about who uncle Vinny is, what he does and where he’s headed. He has been touring around the world showcasing his signature dance move that has since become popular.
Among the names on the long list include South African rapper Cassper Nyovest, Ricky Rick, Kabza de Small, and a number of other popular local amapiano stars. The categories include Friends Of Amapiano, which recognises artists who are not necessarily classified as amapiano acts but have made notable contributions to the genre; and Best Amapiano Street Dancer, a category that awards dancers who propel both the music and Yanos culture through their distinctive street dance moves. Winners will receive R10 000, with the exception of the Amapiano Song of the Year winner who will be awarded R50 000.
