DJ Maphorisa To Join Wizkid On His 19 Cities ‘Made In Lagos’ American Tour. The Nigerian superstar has announced a North American tour in support of his latest album Made in Lagos. The 17-date fall trek kicks off Sept. 10 in Boston and hits major cities including Brooklyn, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Miami through October before closing out with a pair of Canadian dates in Toronto and Montreal in January.
Maphorisa is set to open the tour with an amapiano set, which would be a big deal to the Amapiano movement. Taking to social media, Maphorisa wrote, “Made in Lagos TOUR @wizkidayo I will be opening ka amapiano set.”
Maphorisa, who’s long earned his belt for pumping out hits for almost a decade — from Uhuru’s “Y-tjukutja” and Mafikizolo’s “Khona” to his own “Oncamnce” featuring Stilo Magolide, Kwesta and Zingah — has now become the pioneer of amapiano sound. He together with some yanos artists revolutionalised the sound of amapiano, making it the biggest and fastest growing sound in Mzansi penetrating through the airwaves in some parts of the wotld. His studio has become a legendary haven for artists, both up-and-coming and established.
Wizkid’s Made in Lagos features 14 tracks with African and Caribbean influences, and guests include Burna Boy, Skepta, Damian Marley, H.E.R., Ella Mai, and Terri, a signee to Wizkid’s Starboy Entertainment imprint. In April, Wizkid dropped the video for the Made in Lagos single “Essence” featuring Tems.
