Major League DJz Hint At Working With Grammy-award Winning Artist. In South Africa, where amapiano originated, its stars are reaching new heights. In a world that has plenty of music genres, there’s something refreshing about artists proudly labelling themselves amapiano stars and inspiring a steadfast following. Multiple amapiano producers continue to reimagine and expand the genre, while collaborations between West and South began to crop up slowly as Afrobeats producers tried their hand at mixing the two styles together.
Identical twins Banele and Bandile Mbere, known as musical duo Major League DJz are one of the amapiano artists heplping the sound expand introducing it to a even wider audience. The stars took to social media to hint at working with the African giant and Grammy award winning Burna Boy. “Amapiano Got Next,” they captioned Burna Boy’s snap.
Although it won’t be the first time Burna Boy will be working on an amapiano jam. Three biggest names in Afrobeats have already co-signed the sound – Davido jumped on a remix of it single “Ke Star” by Focalistic and amapiano staple Vigro Deep. While Burna Boy and Wizkid were featured artists on the Kabza De-Small-produced single “Sponono’’ in June last year. It was a statement that the genre is not just creating something in its own separate lane, but that it also has the ability to disrupt the mainstream too.
American stars have also been showing love to the South Africa amapiano. American singer Usher Raymond posted a video of himself vibing to Sponono by DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small, and it became one of Mzansi’s jams that got the global icon dancing off his feet. Usher served some killa moves, which Mzansi suspect were his attempt at Amapiano dancing.
