Major League DJz Announce The Amapiano Artist They’ll Feature On Season 3 Of Their Balcony Mix. Following the negative impacts of the pandemic’s lockdown on people’s jobs and means of money, many were left with little to no alternatives of making money. While musicians were also left stranded as they could not perform at any gig or gathering, however, Major League DJz decided to do live music series, where they could do what they do best, while connecting with their fans and a wider audience online with. That was how they birthed the now famous ‘Amapiano Live Balcony Mix Africa’.
Major League DJz are heading into the third season of their Amapiano Balcony Mix Africa, and they have announced that to kick start the new season, Amapiano star Focalistic will be the headliner. “WE GOT SOME GREAT NEWS 😁😩…. NEXT WEEK FRIDAY WE LAUNCH SEASON 3 WITH OUR BRO @focalistic … THIS IS GONA SPECIAL 🌟🦅🏆. EXCLUSIVES ONLY. PIANO TO THE WORLD 🎹🌎🏆 https://t.co/sZBhbidnI2,” they wrote.
Speaking on the growth and future of amapiano, the twin set said, “It’s going to have a lot of sub-genres in all of piano,” they said. “It’s already having sub-genres, just like Kwaito piano, there’s like deep house piano, there’s tech-piano already. There is afro-piano and there’s soulful piano. So like [our song] “Dinaledi” is soulful piano. And there’s kwaito, kwaito, kwaito, African kwaito piano. So yeah, so it’s probably going to grow. There’s going to be afro-beat piano, you know? So, you just need to let the genre grow, that’s part of growth.”
The stars have featured the likes of Busta 929, Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, Kwiish SA, and many other amapiano pioneers.
Recently, in an interview with DJ Cuppy in her Apple Music radio show Africa Now, the duo shared their reasoning for the switch to the popular house music subgenre: “It was a bit worrying, but we basically knew what we were trying to do. You know, dance is a very big genre in Africa and the world alone. So, moving into that space wasn’t that hard, but we just had to tell the fans like, ‘This is how we’re moving.’ And now, and this is how we make touring.”
