Here’s Why Maphorisa Said He Will Never Work With DJ Cleo. Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe aka DJ Maphorisa who is now the poneer of amapiano has worked with the likes of Wizkid, Uhuru, Drake, Black Coffee, Major Lazer, Kabza De Small, and other new upcoming artists – but doubts he would ever work with DJ Cleo.
The 40-year-old record producer, who sometimes features vocals on other artists’ songs, was asked by a tweep if he’d ever collab with DJ Cleo and his response was touching. He went back to a time when he was still an upcoming DJ and gave his demo to Cleo who wasn’t very kind to him. He wrote, “I dnt think so i gave him my demo in Sunnyside PTA at a YFm show with Dj Fresh n Thato I won’t forget dat day. when he was pushing Brickz he gave me n attitude I told my self I will never be like dat guy coz I was a fuckin kid n I know how it feels to be treated like shit.”
Maphorisa also spoke on his tweet about not working with DJ Cleo, and he said that it is all about giving people chances because you don’t know where those people will be in the next few years. “Actually I am big fan of Cleo, there was a time when he had a goof sound but unfortunately what happened to me happened. I was a young boy then, I think it was 2006 but that experience has taught me to humble myself. I have now just taken what happened as a lesson and I am taking their mistakes and rectifying them in my career,” Maphorisa said in an interview with news24.
