Amapiano, which originates from Pretoria, in South Africa, has become the biggest sound to ever come out from South Africa, while it is also the fastest growing sound in terms of demand and consumption. It has proven to be ground breaking having permeated outside South Africa into the Kenyan borders and shot right into the heart of Nairobi culture. Speaking on Kenyans vibing to the sound, Kamo said: “The fact that Kenya is vibing to amapiano makes me happy because it gives us a chance to be international superstars apart from an African thing. Kamo has danced to many South African popular music genres including gqom, kwaito, pantsula and then amapiano. Her dancing career started when she was very young. She used to follow her father, who then was a staff member at YFM radio station, to shows which gave her the opportunity for exposure to a live performance. It was then that her dancing skills were noticed and she’s never looked back since. She started by dancing, and now she is a vocalist having an EP of her own released under her own record label.
