JazziQ: Drake And Beyoncé Are Going To Have Amapiano Songs On Their Albums. Amapiano is a relatively new genre of South African music, originating from Pretoria. Amapiano producers are proud of how big the sound is globally and the heights it has reached as well as the growing keen interest. Amapiano DJ and producers are now being booked internationally to play in Belgium, Spain and the UK where there is a huge house scene.
JazziQ said the amapiano wave is so big that international acts will jump into the the wave in the next coming years. “It is going to happen in the next two or three years. The likes of Drake and Beyonce will have one or two amapiano beats on their album. That’s how big it is,” JazziQ said.
Between 2017 and now, the genre’s popularity has moved well past South Africa’s borders. From the local streets of Pretoria to global stars picking up the sound, the genre has blazed across the world. It won’t be a surprise as to the heights that amapiano will reach in the next coming few years. Leading this charge is DJ Maphorisa – a local figurehead in the house scene. Before he settled on amapiano, the DJ boasted production credits such as Drake’s One Dance, Major Lazer’s Particula (which features US artist Jidenna) while also producing for continental giants Wizkid and Mafikizolo).
JazziQ’s recent song titled ‘Woza’ was also featured on the viral video of African/American dancers on the streets of Washington, USA. Also considering that the likes of Alicia Keys, Diddy, Swizz Beatz, Luda Chris and counting were also seen jamming to amapiano. Even one of the genre’s biggest international nods came in mid-2020 when Zimbabwean born amapiano artist Sha Sha bagged a BET award for the best international act.
