‘Deeper’ Hitmaker Holly Rey On Why She Will Never Make An Amapiano Track! Amapiano music is arguably the biggest genre not only in South Africa but the entire continent right now. Most radio charts and trending videos are occupied by Amapiano hits and international artists are also catching up to it.

Over the past year and more recently, we’ve seen artists from other genres like SA Hip Hop and Afro Pop transition or cross over to Amapiano. From Cassper Nyovest to Davido, Focalistic to Khuli Chana, they all want to be part of the hottest music movement right now. But one artist you won’t be getting an Amapiano song from is multi platinum selling, SAMA record of the year Award winning Holly Rey who has given us hits like Deeper and You.

Despite having had collaborations with some of the biggest names in Amapiano like DJ Sumbody, T-Man and MajorLeague DJs, Holly Rey says it’s not something she would do on her own.

“People always ask me if I’d do an amapiano track and I don’t think I, as Holly Rey would release an Amapiano track. But I have definitely featured on Amapiano tracks. I did something with MajorLeague, I’ve done something DJ Sumbody and recently T-Man and I love collaborating outside of my genre but I don’t think I’d put out an Amapiano track because I don’t think that’d be being true to who I am and the music I want and the music I want to make for myself,” she told Zkhiphani.

“I love Amapiano and listen to it constantly but I don’t think I’d make it for myself. I wouldn’t even know where to start but I love to feature on other people’s tracks. ‘Spend My Time’ does have a few Amapiano elements in it …you hear that log drum in there so it’s a Holy Rey track but there are those like nodes to what’s happening in the music industry at the moment which is quite cool,” she added.
